In 1876 Reverend Calvin Redington Batchelder of Claremont, New Hampshire published the first volume of a projected 3-volume history of the Eastern Diocese of the Episcopal Church. When he died in 1879 the final two volumes remained in the hands of his publisher. Under a resolution passed by the Rhode Island Episcopal Convention in 1905, about 200 unbound copies and papers related to volume 1, "The Church in New Hampshire", were bought from Lemuel N.
